I am thrilled to announce that Artspace has been awarded £89,000 from Arts Council England towards our artistic programme 2014-16. It will include two ambitious site-specific artist commissions for the city centre, an open programme with opportunities for artists worldwide to share their ideas about art in Coventry and the launch of our city Art Map. There will also be a symposium, engagement and artist development opportunities, all of which we will be releasing more information about during the launch this spring.
We’ve found out over a month early – so you’ll have to wait until the launch to hear more about the artists and locations that we’re considering and the open opportunities for artists!
It feels like we’ve been working towards this for a really long time. The programme builds on the achievements of the Artspace Research Commission (ARC) programme that we delivered in 2012/13 and the recommendations from the ARC impact study written by Brigid Howarth and Michelle Bowen. We’ll be investing more than ever in artists and fabrication costs and connecting to new audiences with a very clear audience development and marketing plan. Needless to say it’s going to be a challenging but extremely exciting year for Artspace and our work in Coventry…
I would like to thank:
The Arts Council, particularly Kate Pryor-Williams, the Artspace Board of Trustees, particularly Caroline Foxhall and Jonathan Davidson, Coventry City Council, particularly David Nuttall, Cllr Ed Ruane and Julie Fairbrother, our Finance Manager & Company Secretary Jackie Stevens, Brigid and Michelle, all of the incredible artists that contributed to our ARC programme (www.ARCprogramme.co.uk) our Artistic Steering Group, member artists, volunteers and all of our supporters.
